SIFO's project application to the NRC VERDIKT program, "RFID in Society", was awarded funding! Congratulations. The project will commence in 2010 and be finalized in 2013. The project is a collaboration between SIFO, TIK-UiO, SNF-NHH and IMK-UiO. Jo Helle-Valle at SIFO will be project manager.

In addition a second project, "NFC city" was awarded funding by VERDIKT. SIFO is also a project partner in this project, which is headed by Telenor R&I.

newsimage Oct. 9, 2009 DigiMedia has received funding from MigraNord to conduct a workshop (with the University of Halmstad) to develop a research idea related to media, migration and ethnicity/race. The workshop will be held in January 2010 and will result in a research application.

newsimage Mar. 18, 2009 SIFO participated in the IT-Funk "user forum" (Brukerforum). IT Funk is a NRC-funded project on ICT for the handicapped. Jo Helle-Valle presented ideas that could be developed into projects on elderly and ICT in particular. The presentation was called: ”Digital-TV: forbedret brukerdesign og -støtte for eldre – en prosjektidé.” (Digital-TV: improved user-design and -support for the elderly - a project idea".

She has worked on several project initiatives for the DigiMedia group and specifically on the RAM-project on youth and online participation. Bucher is now pursuing a PhD at the Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo. Good luck!

The RAM-project on youth and politcal participation online, which was formally completed in 2008, has now presented two project reports: 1) Ungdoms samfunnsdeltakelse på internett - resultater skolekartlegging 2008 (Civic engagement of youth on the internet; report from a school survey 2008), by Benedicte Hauge and Ardis Storm-Mathisen - and 2) Ungdom, politikk og internett - en akademisk refleksjon over norsk ungdoms samfunnsdeltakelse og politiske engasjement online (Youth, politics and the internet; an academic refelction on youth's social involvement and political participation online) by Taina Bucher, Ardis Storm-Mathisen and Jo Helle-Valle. The project reports were commented on in VG (04.02.2009) p. 18 and in Dagbladet (11.02.2009). Bucher presented the project and its findings at SIFO 11.02.2009, and at Forbrukerrådet 24.02.2009.

newsimage Jan. 26, 2009 The DigiMedia group got NOS-HS funding (for 2009-2013) for the project proposal Gendering ICT in Everyday Life. A Comparative Study of Practices in Family and Extra Family Contexts. SIFO will be project leader and Jo Helle-Valle will manage the project. The project further involves a Nordic collaboration and a PhD. The Danish partner is the Center for Marketing Communication, Copenhagen Business School (CBS) - and the Swedish partner is The Linnaeus Centre for Research on Learning, Interaction, and Mediated Communication in Contemporary Society (LinCS), Department of Education, University of Göteborg (UIG). Congratulations!!

The SIFO project report Forbrukere i bredbånds- og TV-markedet (Consumers in the broadband and TV market) was presented on the SIFO website on January 22. The survey is part of a collaboration between the DigiMedia-project and the SIFO-survey project. The report is written by Dag Slettemeås. Findings from the report were commented on in Aftenposten(22.01), Teknofil (22.01), NRK (22.01), in a live broadcast by Radio Metro (23.01), and NITO (29.01).

newsimage Jan. 18, 2009 Debate article by Taina Bucher in Dagbladet; Politisk engasjement anno 2009 (Political activity in 2009). The article addresses the key issue of what it means to be politically and socially engaged in present day society. The article is partly based on findings from the RAM-project Ungdoms samfunnsdeltakelse online. (Online societal activity among youth).

The poster was presented by Jo Helle-Valle on the 27th (abstract and poster available) and the paper was presented by Dag Slettemeås on the 28th (abstract and paper available). In addition, SIFO Prof. II Terje Rasmussen from IMK, presented a paper on the 27th (abstract available).

newsimage Nov. 10-11, 2008 Senter for tverrfaglig kjønnsforskning (STK) (Centre for Gender Research), University of Oslo, held a two-day conference called "Kjønnsforskning Nå!" (Gender Research Now!). Jo Helle-Valle gave a talk on "gender as language-game". Siv Elin Ånestad and Ardis Storm-Mathisen from the DigiMedia group participated.

newsimage Nov. 5, 2008 Mini-seminar at SIFO with NOVA-researcher Guro Ødegaard on youth and political engagement. Title: Motløs ungdom? Nytt engasjement i et gammelt demokrati. Ødegaard is soon completeing her PhD on this subject and this seminar was relevant for both SIFO and NOVA in terms of exchanging perspectives. The seminar was particularly relevant for the DigiMedia-project on adolecents' societal activities online.

Terje Rasmussen's research interests relates to the use and transformation of digital personal media in social networks, the sociological controversies that influence the Internet as a social force, the digitization and selection of culture in archives and museums, Internet governance, online journalism, transformations of the european public sphere. DigiMedia launches it's new project website! This website will be an integral part of the DigiMedia-project, in the sense that it functions as a comprehensive information source, a reference and project development tool, a document archive / database, a meeting-point for scholars, and as a pool of ideas for future project development. It is also a "marketing tool" to make visible to a wider audience the research efforts conducted within the group.
