Culture of consumption

Research on consumption is a field of study where we examine not only how people acquire useful things, but also how they express their attitudes, preferences, affiliations, identity, values and tastes. Hence the concept of consumption goes beyond narrow economic rationality to also include a focus on culture. Consumption is thus regarded as both an expression of what people want, and as a normative system.
