Virginie Amilien is a researcher in cultural studies. After passing her PhD in Scandinavian Culture at the University of Sorbonne-Paris IV, France, in 1994, she did research and teaching at Blindern, University of Oslo, Institute for Cultural Studies . She has worked as a researcher at the National Institute for Consumption Research, Norway, since 1999, on projects considering Norwegian food culture, local identity and food system in tourism. After a study on the tension between global and local food culture in the restaurants context, she studied kitchen as a social room and a space for food. She is now beginning with a French-Norwegian co-operation project about local food products in a cultural and consumption perspective.
